Mitchells is the latest market to open its doors, following an announcement from New Zealand’s largest fish and chip vendor, Macmillan.
The Mitchells Market, located at the heart of the city’s waterfront, has been the site of the world’s largest ever fish market.
It has been a boon to the local economy, said co-owner Tim Smith.
“It’s made a lot of money and it’s been good for the community and for the local businesses,” he said.
Smith said the market’s location at the city market made it an ideal location for the public to come in and have a good time.
He said the Mitchells market also helped to make New Zealand one of the biggest fish markets in the world, with over 30 different species of fish and chips on offer.
A large portion of the market is open to the general public and will be open to people on a first-come, first-served basis from May to October.
